Gender stereotypes are very common in children’s literature. Classic children’s books and even contemporary literature often portray boys and girls in stereotypical ways. Join Mrs. Tolbert and our school librarian Jennifer Stanton to read and explore gender stereotypes in children’s picture books. We will examine how literature can contribute to gender stereotypes and counter them. We will provide tools for parents to help children think critically about what they are reading and a framework that can be applied to other stereotypes. We will model how to have these important conversations with your child.
