Returning to Altadena

We are excited to share our vision for rebuilding our campus and returning to Altadena. This page serves as a central resource for our campus rebuild. Here, you’ll find the latest news, videos, and documents, all in one place to keep you informed. We are grateful for your partnership, as we build the future of our school and church.

A VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF SAINT MARK’S

We’re honored to share the vision for the Saint Mark’s Master Plan, shaped by months of listening, dreaming, and planning with our community. It reflects who we’ve always been while looking ahead to what’s possible for generations to come. This is a big picture vision, not the final design. As we move forward, details will take shape, and we’ll be sharing this plan with LA County in the coming weeks for approval.

We invite you to watch the video and begin imagining this future with us.

Help Us Take the Next Step

As part of this next phase, there will be multiple opportunities for community engagement. We look forward to welcoming neighbors, parents, parishioners, and partners to an upcoming town hall (Date TBD) where we will share details and take questions.

In addition, the project will move through official public processes, including presentations to the Altadena Town Council and eventually a hearing at the Los Angeles County Planning Commission. As these reviews move forward, we would greatly welcome letters of support from our community to help demonstrate the importance of this project.

We are grateful for the continued support of our community and remain committed to keeping you informed and involved every step of the way.

Meet Our Architects

Saint Mark’s has selected two firms, CannonDesign and Synchronis, to collaborate on the master planning process. CannonDesign will serve as the lead architects, and they will focus on the educational campus. The firm collaborated on the book Campus as a Third Teacher. Synchronis will be focused on the church design. They designed the Church of Our Saviour, where our preschool program and community events have been temporarily housed. The firms have experience working together on prior projects.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

At the onset of the campus rebuild process, our church and school leadership committee agreed on four guiding principles. These principles have shaped our vision for our future campus and will continue to guide our work as we rebuild and return to Altadena.

LIVING OUR VALUES

We live our values both within and beyond the walls of our campus, teaching and modeling compassion, curiosity, and service. Rooted in faith and purpose, we strive to be a beacon for our community, engaging as learners and partners — sharing our gifts and acting for the common good.

WELCOMING BY DESIGN

We create spaces and practices that make room for all, where every individual is seen, valued, and nurtured. Rooted in care and stewardship, our community fosters belonging through environments that are open and inviting, encouraging reflection, discovery, and connection across worship and learning.

BUILD TO LAST; DESIGN FOR CHANGE

We create enduring spaces that evolve gracefully and tread lightly on the earth. Crafted with care for today’s community members and those who follow, our flexible environments invite creativity and foster environmental responsibility — empowering each generation to shape Saint Mark’s to meet its own needs and dreams.

CAMPUS AS A THIRD TEACHER

We see the campus as a living teacher, where every space opens doors to curiosity, wonder, and growth. Thoughtfully shaped and richly layered, our environment teaches through experience — revealing meaning in the details and turning daily life into opportunities to learn and grow.
