Social and Emotional Development

At Saint Mark’s, we value the social emotional development of children in lock step with their academic and cognitive growth. Our preschool-6th grade program uses the Responsive Classroom framework to build emotional competencies including responsibility, empathy, cooperation, assertiveness, and self-control in addition to learning strategies and academic content. The preschool teaching staff is committed to ensuring that all children are welcome, seen, heard and loved.

Outdoor Learning

Outdoor education and exploration is a key aspect of our preschool program. Students spend a balanced amount of time indoors and outdoors. There are opportunities for climbing, swinging, digging in the sand, gardening, painting, constructing with big and small loose parts, creatively engaging in imaginative play, making messy memories and so much more. While children learn outdoors we continue to facilitate conversations and activities that build upon their foundational skills. Our educators are actively supporting students with their peer to peer interactions, exploration, and motor skill development.

Foundational Skills & Playing with Purpose

Our incredible team of educators focuses on cultivating multisensory activities with an interdisciplinary approach. Each day, students immerse themselves in a learning environment that allows for exploration, facilitation, and inquiry. We pair foundational skills in language arts, math, social studies, science with excitement, joy and motor skill development. Many times our students do not even know they are learning! Preschool is magical, we play with a purpose.
